Lower Back Pain

Low back pain and its causes

Low back pain can leave you unable to enjoy your everyday life and your favorite activities. 8 out of 10 people will experience back pain at some point, and for many, occasional back pain can turn into chronic pain that recurs for months or even years. Whether the pain stems from a herniated or bulging disc, joint degeneration or a pinched nerve, it can be very difficult to treat.

Typical treatments

Low back pain is typically treated through the techniques of Western medicine: pain killers, muscle relaxers, epidural steroid injections, physical therapy, and as a last resort, back surgery. Unfortunately, with the exception of surgery, these treatments don’t address the underlying cause of the pain, they just mask the symptoms so that you can live with it.

How acupuncture can help

As advanced as modern medicine has become, the human body is still the best doctor; able to heal itself of many of the illnesses patients normally look to a doctor to cure. Acupuncture for back pain relief involves the insertion of acupuncture needles—as thin as a human hair—causing a number of biological responses that signal the body to reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

Effects of acupuncture

Acupuncture’s effects can begin quickly, letting you get back to enjoying life without having to wait for physical therapy sessions or steroid injections to start working. Most patients notice a difference after just one or two treatments.

Medical acupuncture is also completely natural; there are no drugs, surgeries, side effects or recovery time involved. And while there is no guarantee that acupuncture will cure your condition, in most cases acupuncture can heal and relieve the majority of your low back pain.

Acupuncture has been proven again and again in studies all over the world to provide better results for back pain relief than any other type of treatment… maybe that’s why it has been in use for over 3,000 years.

“I had no preconceived notion of how the treatment was going to be but I was hoping for some relief. His office is so comforting to begin with, but it’s so relaxing even through the treatment, it’s a very Zen-like experience, almost spa-like. When I finished the first treatment I felt somewhat better, and then I had three subsequent treatments and it was amazing.” - Liz Munger, Scottsdale, AZ

“After my first acupuncture treatment, I could walk around much easier with almost no pain. After five treatments, 80% of my low back pain, my pinched sciatic nerve and neck and shoulder pain was gone. When you live with pain for so long, you forget what it’s like to feel normal again. Dr. Ahn gave me back the life I’d been missing for ten years!” – Diana Bentley, Scottsdale, AZ
